The month of May did not go as my writer self had planned! I had all these goals to reach, to get my manuscript ready for an agent. Instead, on top of recovering from surgery, we decided to move.
The day I had my first post-op appointment, we went to look at a house afterward. (Fortunately, I had recovered enough to walk around 😏) We were thinking of downsizing on house and upsizing on land. (Notice I said “thinking.” We hadn’t actually decided to do this.) The very next day, we looked at a second house. And, put a bid on it.
In the span of less than a week: our offer was accepted, we started packing, we replaced almost all the carpet in our house, we staged our house, we had our realtor’s photographer and videographer come take pictures, we cleaned our old carpet, we listed our house, had one day of showings, and accepted an offer on our house. Talk about moving fast. (And, all while I couldn’t lift over ten pounds!)
It was all good. But also, stressful. Especially since I didn’t have the time to work on my manuscript the way I wanted. Writing makes me feel good. Writing calms me. Writing gives me life. And during this crazy, hectic time, I actually explored another way to “scratch that itch.”
I dipped my toe into the realm of flash fiction. (Of course, I’ve already been doing this with my “fiction blurbs” on here, so maybe this doesn’t count…) hope*writers had an Instagram writing challenge, with a prompt word for each day. Instead of writing something inspirational or personal, like I have for their challenges before, I decided to write a short story in segments.
It was fun!! (You can read what I wrote, starting here.) It was amazing to see a handful of people actually follow my entire short story to the end. (And enjoy it!) That little venture has made me more interested in looking for other flash fiction opportunities. We’ll see where that goes….
Know that I’m not stopping my work on my manuscript! (My ultimate dream!) 😁
