This past month I signed up for Query Tracker, per multiple recommendations from other writers. Query Tracker helps writers find agents, based on different criteria, and tracks the process. Familiarizing myself with this tool and looking closer at agents’ submission requirements is making me realize the submission process really is detailed, complex, and drawn out.
I have finished my query letter, I believe, at least the first version I will be sending out. I compare the writer’s query letter to the job-seeker’s cover letter. With the help of my in-person write-in group and my online hope*circle with hope*writers, I’m feeling pretty confident about it.
Also, I have finished the first version of my synopsis. Though, I am still researching what a synopsis is, to make sure I’m not missing something. It seems the most accurate, simple description I have come across is that a synopsis is like a book report. But man, it’s been years since I’ve written one of those!
All that remains, paperwork-wise for submissions, is working on my proposal, including logline. Essentially, this consists of answering a variety of questions about myself and my book. I did recently have the opportunity to get feedback on my logline in a Realm Maker Zoom workshop. Still, I’m confused. But I think the reason I am is because I’m feeling overwhelmed the closer I get to my scheduled one-on-one pitch appointment 😬
How do you keep from feeling overwhelmed? How do you prepare for a big opportunity?
